It's Movember for Problogger

How Darren *may* look by the end of Movember!

I don't often blog about other blogs, especially not the big players but Darren over at Problogger is taking part in Movember.

As I don't have the cash to participate in giving money I thought I would try and spread this worthy cause.

Movember (the month formally known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year.

At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants known as Mo Bros then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache and along the way raise as much money and awareness about male health issues, in particular prostate cancer as possible. Movember culminates at the end of the month at the gala part├ęs. These glamorous and groomed events will see Tom Selleck and Borat look-a-likes battle it out for their chance to take home the prestigious Man of Movember title.
Darren is offering the following:
If you donate $200 or more I’ll include a button with a link (maximum of 125 x 125 pixels) above the fold on this post. I’ll also include that button and link in a post at the end of Movember as a thank you.

To do this you need to make a donation of $200 ore more (that’s $200 Aussie dollars or around $185 USD), send me proof of your donation (a screen shot of your receipt would be fine), the button ad (125×125 pixels maximum) and the link to your site that you want me to point the button to. No offensive content and no affiliate programs please as the links.

I think it's a great thing for a big blogger to do so if you can hop over to and follow his progress.

I hope he does not mind my silly picture :)

Salmon topped with mushrooms and cheese

This very simple recipe is very very nice. In fact it's so nice that after making it for the head chef at work she now wants it on the menu.

It's an adaptation of a Polish recipe.

Ingredients (Serves 4):
4 portions of salmon (you can use other fish if you prefer)
8 heaped spoons of white mushrooms
8 heaped spoons of sour cream
1 tablespoon of butter
4 handfuls of grated cheese (Chedder, or Swiss are good)
Lemon Juice

  • Melt the butter in a skillet at medium heat
  • Fry the mushrooms lightly until there is no liquid left in the pan
  • Squeeze lemon juice over the salmon portions
  • Broil the salmon for 6-8mins until it is cooked all the way through
  • Evenly spread the cooked mushrooms over the salmon portions
  • Spread 2 heaped spoons of sourcream over each portion
  • Add grated cheese to top of each portion
  • Sprinkle a fair amount of paprika on top of the cheese
  • Place the portions back in the oven for another 4-6 mins until the cheese is just browning

Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy!

Get a phone card online

When I lived in the UK and I was calling my partner in the US on a regular basis I often used phone cards to call her cheaply from my home and mobile phone. I wasn't always able to call through Skype so they were a handy thing to have.

I had to go to my local town and buy the phone cards from a vendor and they did not always have the best selection or deals so I did not always get a great rate.

However when I discovered sites that would allow me to buy cards online it was far easier to make sue I always had the best deal. All I had to do was carry the purchased pin numbers around in my wallet and I was able to call her in the USA from the UK for a reasonable price.

The Rich is one of these sites where you can buy a phone card to call anywhere in the world from the USA.

They carry over 800 cards and say that they offer inexpensive rates and great quality.

Selecting the option to call the UK from the USA brings up 32 pages of cards with rates starting as low as 0.4 cents. Clicking on each phone card name brings up a detailed profile so that you can easily find the right card to suit your needs. Each card has also been quality rated and surprisingly they are not all marked as being the best.

Selecting the option for india phone cards brings up 29 pages, znd even Andorra brings up 16 pages of results so you can be sure to find the right card for you.

The site offers easy purchasing and instant online delivery using major credit cards and with a search option to easily find cards by name it means that you can come back and easily re-purchase the same cards.

My First Pumpkin

The kitchen staff (so that includes me :) ) at work were offered 2 free pints to carve a pumpkin for Halloween.

Never having carved one before I didn't know what to do so had a thought and came up with this idea and quickly mocked it up on the computer just before I had to leave:

I didn't know where to start carving so after copying my design roughly onto the pumpkin I started with the person first.

I think it turned out reasonably well for my first one, and it was definitely worth the free pints :).

Happy Halloween.
